The 2011 Keith Crain/Automotive News Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to renowned car designer Carroll Shelby on Jan. 27 during the Washington Auto Show. Each year, the award is handed to someone who has significantly contributed to the auto industry. Aside from the Shelby Cobra, Carroll Shelby has inspired designs for American sports cars for many years.
Keith Crain, Automotive News editor-in-chief, said that if there was an icon in our industry, it would be Carroll Shelby.
He pointed out that Shelby has been the “driving force behind putting power and performance in great American cars.”
Crain added that Shelby has represented the industry worldwide, both on the race track and the highway. Among those who have received the award in previous years are safety pioneer Ralph Nader and U.S. Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich. [via autonews - sub. required]
