‘Cash for Clunkers’ program destroys lots rare and exotic cars

An awful result of the scrappage scheme has been the crushing of a number of rare and exotic cars. Since the deal for the cash-for-clunkers incentive was to trade in old vehicles to get huge discounts for new cars, did anybody ever think that people would be bringing in their Porsches and Bentleys?
Sadly, there were plenty. Britain ‚ scrappage scheme led to the demise of MGBs and low-end Porsches. In the US , a Bentley Continental R and an Aston DB7 Volante have been destroyed. Among the ruins were a 1999 Mercedes C43 AMG, two special edition 450bhp Ford F150 pickups, a 1985 Maserati Quattroporte, a BMW 850i, and 131 Chevrolet Corvettes. The US scheme that ended last month offered car buyers discounts of up to $4500 for the new cars. Now tell us, was that enough incentive to part with these exceptional cars?
