2008 LA Auto Show: Kia Borrego FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle)

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Kia Borrego FCEV ConceptThe global unveiling of the all-fresh Kia Borrego FCEV at the LA International Auto Show today has brought Kia Motors Corporation’s (KMC) Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) program into a great technological leap forward.

Many improvements, such as a higher yield 154 horsepower fuel cell and a new 450-volts Supercapacitor provide the Borrego FCEV even greater performance, a considerably extended driving range and cold-weather starting ability to function in freezing weather conditions.

Offered with either a two and three tank system that comes with a 70MPa pressure, the Borrego FCEV’s engine is located under the center floor and brags an extra 47 horsepower of energy to generate a top yield of 154 horsepower (a 44-percent increase in contrast to the preceding generation) and run the vehicle to a ceiling speed of 100 miles per hour (mph) at the same time boasting a class-leading system efficiency of 62 percent. 2010 Mazda3 makes its LA debut

Monday, November 24th, 2008

2010 Mazda3The all-fresh version of the year 2010 Mazda3 made its official presentation to the world at this week’s LA Auto Show, though the vehicle is not yet ready to go on sale until next year following the unveiling of the famous hatchback version. Even as photos of the most current sedan have been going around for more than a month, Mazda has at last officially provided more accurate details.

The most current Mazda3 has already sold almost 1.8 million vehicles in excess of 100 countries since its launch in 2003 and has claimed in excess of 90 worldwide motoring awards until now. Predictably, the Mazda3 constitutes almost one in three Mazdas sold, so the attainment of the new car is most important to the Japanese automaker. Details and photos after the jump!

Mazda Kaan Project achieves the top award at 2008 LA Design Challenge

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Mazda Kaan ConceptWith its Kaan concept, Mazda achieved the top award at the LA Design Challenge. The design itself is a imaginary look into a future where all the roads in California are paved with sub-level electro-conductive polymer, which offers power to the electronic tires that allow the Kaan to attain a maximum speed of up to 250 mph. Up to 30 Kaans would travel together in aerodynamic formations that would largely reduce wind drag, so Mazda concept vehicle is designed to fit snuggly together in the peloton.

The overriding theme of the contest was to foresee what motorsports would be like in the year 2025 giving attention to the available fuel, quality of life, technology, and others. Chuck Pelly, director of Design Los Angeles, claimed that the decision was made because Mazda’s entry was “the most innovative and artistic design,” and that the Kaan “ultimately brought unique styling back to motorsports.” Of course, the description “unique” is completely insufficient. Honda Insight Concept introduces Ecological Drive Assist System

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Honda Insight Ecological Drive Assist SystemThe Ecological Drive Assist System was developed by Honda to enable its clients to improve their fuel economy in actual driving conditions. The scoring function offers accumulated, long-term feedback via graphic ‘leaves’, which ‘grow’ over time as drivers learn and then implement a sleeker driving style that raises fuel economy. The visual character of the scoring function presentation makes it easy and enjoyable for drivers to enhance the efficiency of their driving skills in time.

“Hybrid technology delivers great fuel economy and low emissions, but these can both be affected by driving style. This new package encourages greener, more efficient driving, in a fun and engaging way,” says John Kingston, Government Affairs and Environment Manager at Honda (UK). LA debut for the 2009 Bmw 7-Series ActiveHybrid Concept

Friday, November 21st, 2008

2009 Bmw 7-Series ActiveHybrid The Bmw Concept 7-Series ActiveHybrid is a clever interdependence of Bmw’s new dual-turbo V8 engine and electric drive as a gentle hybrid concept. A compact electric motor, incorporated into the housing of the transmission, substitutes the typical alternator and also the starter.

Power is generated by means of Brake Energy Regeneration to run all electrics on-board the car. The merger of internal combustion engine and electric motor bring the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8’s already powerful 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque and supplies an additional 20 horsepower and up to 155 lb-ft of torque as required. The drivetrain technology highlighted in the concept car permits improved driving dynamics along with a lowering of fuel consumption and emissions by 15 percent in the EU test cycle in contrast to the same car running solely on a combustion engine alone. Simultaneously, the use of Bmw ActiveHybrid technology does not necessitate any compromises in driving behavior and attributes of the Bmw 7-Series.

2010 Nissan Cube specs revealed

Friday, November 21st, 2008

2010 Nissan CubeThe new Cube is here as Nissan has made public initial details and a full gallery of the Japanese domestic market (JDM) version but only a meager three high-resolution photos of the U.S.-spec model which will make its introduction at the 2008 LA Auto Show. The successful, all-new third generation Cube which has sold almost one million vehicles up to this writing in Japan since its debut in 1998, preserves the unique design as well as the non-symmetrical rear end of its precursors. Basing from the images that Nissan published, it seems like the U.S.-spec model highlights a slightly larger front bumper in contrast to the JDM version. Inside, the Cube follows the same funky design theme as the exterior with a swoopy dash, colorful details and loads of plastic. Photos and details after the jump!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Hyundai HED-5 i-Mode ConceptThe HED-5 “i-Mode” concept was unveiled by Hyundai at the 2008 LA Auto Show today, highlighting an all-fresh, environment-friendly powertrain making its first-ever appearance for Hyundai. The six-seater family crossover, which was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, merges visionary styling with future technologies and advanced eco-dynamics.

The HED-5 i-Mode unveils for the US outlet a first-ever direct-injection powerplant for Hyundai, the Theta Turbo GDI. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine utilizes gasoline direct injection technology.
