Peugeot-Citroen canned its plans to take a substantial stake in Mitsubishi

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Mitsubishi iMievPeugeot Citroen has decided not to acquire a substantial stake in Mitsubishi. At the Geneva Motor Show earlier this week, PSA’s chief executive Phillippe Varin and Mitsubishi president Osamu Masuko had talked.

In an interview, Varin says that the terms for the planned deal had not been met. According to financial sources, PSA is thinking about taking between a 30% and 50% stake in the Japanese car maker, and could spend up to £2.2 billion. PSA sources say that the tie-up plans are over. Peugeot Citroen sought to build an alliance, which would help give it a global footing as it moves to lessen its dependency on the European market. Shares of Mitsubishi plunged as the markets raised fears that it requires major cash infusions to survive. Mitsubishi’s sales dropped by over 50% in the last decade. Currently, Peugeot uses a modified version of the Mitsubishi Outlander compact SUV as its 4008 model and the Citroen C-Crosser. It also offers a version of Mitsubishi’s innovative i-MiEV electric car as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero.

GQ by Citroen: the ultimate gentleman’s drive

Friday, March 5th, 2010

GQ by CitroenThis is the GQ by Citroen, a new concept from the French manufacturer designed to provide the ultimate gentleman’s drive. The new car comes with a new plug-in hybrid powertrain, featuring a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine.

Don’t think that the car is lazy because is not: it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). Regarding the CO2 emissions, the concept emits only 80g/km. As you figured it out, the car has been created by Citroen and GQ magazine, but it is only a concept and will remain one because the French manufacturer has no plans to produce this car. It was designed by to a brief set out by GQ editor Dylan Jones and created by a design team headed by Mark Lloyd, also known as DS3 creator. “Where this car works so well with GQ is that it fits with the current attitudes of conspicuous consumption. It is understated rather than in-your-face and sleek rather than too macho.” said Mark Lloyd. “The GQ car needed to have the “want” factor, but it also needed to look, feel and drive like the sort of car no sane man could choose to ignore. We think it looks very special.’ added Jones. Photo gallery after the jump!

2010 Geneva Motor Show: Citroen DS High Rider

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Citroen DS High Rider ConceptCitroen’s new DS High Rider crossover concept will soon enter production as the DS4, which is set to rival the Nissan Juke and Mini Countryman.

The High Rider, which was recently introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, is a three-door, four-seater vehicle. The carmaker said that for production, it will gain another two doors. The production DS4, which will appear very close to the concept, will be showcased at the Paris motor show in the autumn. The DS4 uses the same platform as the Citroen C4, which will be launched later in the year. Measuring 1480mm and 1820mm, the DS4 is taller and wider than the current C4 hatch. However, it is a bit shorter than the current C4 at 4260mm. The DS4’s styling is inspired by the smaller DS3 and the C-SportLounge concept from 2005 and when compared to the C4, it is certainly much more radical. The styling of the High Rider’s front-end is similar to the DS3. They have the same grille, headlights, bonnet sculpting and badging — all of which will also be used by the DS4 production car. The features that won’t make it to production include the fog lights, 19-inch alloys and fabric roof. Continued after the jump!

Citroen DS High Rider Concept unveiled ahead of Geneva Motor Show

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Citroen DS High Rider ConceptImages of the latest DS High Rider Concept from Citroen that will soon hit the 2010 Geneva Motor Show have been circulating online. The concept shown here is a preview of the future production version however, the differences between the two are said to be minimal.

An AutoExpress report says that the Nissan Juke contender will have the same chassis as the C4 hatchback, but will be bigger and taller than the C4. We’ll likely get more details about the car by the weekend, before it’s unveiling at the Geneva Show. There’s speculation that the DS4 will be based on the C-Sportlounge coupe-come-MPV hybrid concept displayed in 2005. At the same, it will also have a few of the design cues of the current C4 model. Citroen could be using this car to rival the Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 3008. The DS4 is expected to begin production before the year ends. It will go on sale in early 2011 at the latest. The DS4 will be followed by the DS5, which will be based on the C5, completing the revived DS range later that same year. Photo gallery after the jump!

2010 Citroen DS3Having posted biggest net loss in 20 years for 2009, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen SA declined to provide a 2010 forecast beyond mid-year. The group expects conditions to continue to be tough. More specifically, it predicts that the European market will drop 9% this year.

For the first half of 2010, the group believes that its efforts to drive sales, cut costs and improve capacity utilization as well as new model launches would lead to a positive recurring operating income.
