Geneva Motor Show: 2010 Dacia Duster

2010 Dacia DusterDacia’s first-ever SUV, the Duster, was unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show. Set to go on sale in select European countries this month, this compact off-roader is priced from 11,900 Euros for the two-wheel drive version and 13,900 Euros for the 4×4 version.

In Romania, the car will be sold for 10,500 Euros for the two-wheel drive version and 12,300 Euros for the 4×4 version (VAT included). The car measures 4.31 meters in length and 1.82 meters in width but its weight varies with the configuration chosen — 1,160kg in 4×2 specification and 1,250kg for the 4×4 version. Dacia claims that the Duster has an impressive space for its price. The SUV is based on a platform derived from the Logan family and has a boot capacity of 474 meters (depending on version). More details about Skoda’s Logan fighter

2010 Dacia LoganSkoda has revealed new details about a low-cost family sedan set to rival the Logan, which is produced by Renault’s Dacia subsidiary. In the union’s weekly newsletter, Skoda union chief Jaroslav Povsik sid that a mock-up of the new car, which is dubbed A Entry, has been presented.

The Mlada Fronta Dnes Czech daily newspaper said that the model could have a price tag of about 260,000 crowns ($13,650), which places it at a notch somewhere between Skoda’s Fabia subcompact and the Octavia sedan. The newspaper thinks that the car would be targeting lower-income customers looking for a larger family car. Continued after the jump!

Electric Dacia Logan Pickup for sale in Iowa

2010 Dacia Logan PickupDes Moines Motors, formerly a Chrysler dealer, is offering an electric two-seat pickup that’s based on the Dacia Logan. The pickup truck is sold under the Electric Motor Cars brand and is claimed to be capable of running 260 miles on a single charge and can haul 2000 lbs of cargo.

It is priced from $33,950, but if you want a wagon version, you’ll have to pay an extra $1000. A van model is priced from $37,950. Power comes from nickel sodium chloride, “ZEBRA” batteries, which will charge in 3 hours on 220 volts or up to 8 hours when powered by 110 volts. Continued after the jump!

Renault starts Sandero hatchback production in Russia

2010 Renault SanderoRenault’s production of the Sandero hatchback in Russia has recently started. Operations will be handled by Avtoframos, a joint venture established by Renault with the Moscow government. It’s believed that production of the Sandero, the replacement to the Logan sedan in the local market, will reach its maximum capacity in February next year.

The first units are expected to be delivered in the next few months. Various Russian media reports say that Renault invested a total of $150 million in the local plants, which are slated to build 160,000 cars annually. Two gasoline engine options, 1.4- and 1.6-liter four-cylinder, will be offered for the Russian-bound sandero range. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard. For the moment, a diesel variant will not be offered as the Russian market still relies on petrol units. Russian pricing will start at $10,100, while the top-of-the-range Sandero will be priced at around $13,700. Renault is also said to be considering Russian production of Dacia’s recently-revealed SUV Duster. There are talks that this could be realized in 2011.

2010 Dacia DusterProduction of Dacia Duster budget crossover is set to begin early next year but fans in the UK would have to wait for the confirmation that a right-hand drive would be available for them. Dacia would have to offer the car in right-hand drive before it could be considered for a UK launch.

In an interview with Autocar, a Renault source said that the Dacia brand “maybe” launched in the UK and when it does, only the Duster and the Sandero would be available since the company doesn’t think there’s a market in the UK for its Logan. Continued after the jump!

Dacia Duster SUV to compete in the Trophee Andros ice-racing series

Dacia Duster SUVDacia revealed today the competition version of Duster SUV (based on the Duster Concept revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show), the brand’s sixth model also known as a robust and reliable 4×4. This new model will be driven by Alain Prost in the Trophee Andros ice-racing series but it is actually a preview of the first SUV in the Dacia’s history, a model which is due to go on sale in 2010.

The competition version of the Dacia Duster features a 3.0-liter , 24 valve V6 engine capable to deliver an impressive 350 hp at 7,500 rpm and a maximum 360 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Full details and photos after the jump!

Skoda plans to build a low-cost sedan to compete with Dacia Logan

2009 Skoda Octavia RSSkoda, the Czech unit of Volkswagen AG, will soon have a low-cost family sedan to rival the Logan, which is a product of Renault’s Dacia subsidiary. CEO Reinhard Jung said that within two or three years, Skoda will have its new model go on sale for a price that is estimated to be between 10,000 and 12,000 euros.

While the CEO failed to provide more details, we’ve received reports from German press that the new car will be positioned between the Octavia compact and Fabia subcompact and would use components from both those models. Continued after the jump!

Renault has chosen Jerome Olive to lead its low-cost Dacia brand

Dacia Logan MPVRenault’s low-cost brand, Dacia, will have a new managing director on Nov. 26. Jerome Olive will be replacing François Fourmont who will retire at the end of the year. In 1982, Olive started at Renault. He transferred to Douai in 1996 for the start-up of the first-generation Scenic minivan. He then spent three years leading the plant’s body-in-white assembly department before being promoted to deputy director in charge of manufacturing in 1999. Since 2004, he has been serving as the factory director for Renault’s car assembly plant in Douai, France.

Dacia SUV SpyThis is the brand new Dacia SUV! As you can see the photos were taken in the Dacia plant and it seems that this is the production version of the new vehicle.

Unfortunately we do not know anything regarding this but we can assume that the new car will get the 1.6-liter petrol engine but also the 1.5-liter dCI diesel engine found on the new Sandero Stepway unveiled at this year’s Barcelona Motor Show. More details and photos after the jump!

Dacia Sandero Stepway unveiled at the Barcelona Motor Show

Dacia Sandero StepwayThe Romanian carmaker Renault will be coming out with a Sandero Stepway, a model that will join the cheaper Dacia Logan and Sandero in the Dacia-Renault product line, and which will be shown in two simultaneous shows, one at the Barcelona Motor Show and the other in Paris at the L’Atelier Renault showroom.

The Dacia Sandero Stepway will be the European version of the Renault Sandero Stepway which is currently in the markets of Brazil and produced by Renault in its Curitiba plant. Both versions share about 80 percent of parts, together with roofbars and bumpers both at the front and rear. The Dacia version will be reaching dealerships in Europe by September this year and can be ordered by July. Depending on the market, there will be two powerplant arrangement that will be offered: a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 90hp and a dCI 70 diesel unit. The fuel efficiency of the Dacia Stepway is rated at 7.6 liters per 100km (30.9mpg) for the gasoline variant and 5.3 liters per 100km (44.3mpg) for the diesel variant. The Dacia Stepway, patterned after the Ambience version, will come with three standard color options: Cosmete Grey, Mercury Grey and Ruby Red. Included in the standard equipment are Bosch 8.1 ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist (EBA) together with airbags for both driver and passenger at the front, exterior mirrors in Chrome, chrome grill trim, 16 inch aluminum alloys, exhaust tailpipe in chrome and headlight masks in black. All models will come with a three year or 100,000 km warranty, or whichever comes first.
