Thursday, October 29th, 2009

A Porsche test driver who remains unnamed donned a stopwatch, a crash hat, an RS, and a lot of guts, and went into light traffic.

Data from earlier laps indicate that the theoretical ‘best lap’ is 7m30s. It can still be recalled that the Nissan GT-R recorded a laptime of 7m27.56s. More impressive lap records were performed by the Gumpert Apollo (7m11.57s) and Radical SR8LM (6m48s), which was reported just two months ago. Photo gallery and video after the jump!

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

2010 Porsche GT3 RSPorsche’s most sporting 911 yet is the new 2010 GT3 RS, which is now being shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The homologation special is fitted with the same 3.8-litre flat six as the GT3, but it has 444bhp instead of 429bhp. Wider tracks were fitted on the latest GT3 RS at the front and rear (aided by extended front wheel arches) and a huge carbonfiber rear wing with aluminum supports.

The naturally aspirated engine, which has a specific output of more than 113bhp per liter, is mated to a low-ratio, short-shift six-speed manual gearbox. 2010 Porsche GT3 laps the Nurburgring in 7m 40 seconds

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

2010 Porsche GT3The 2010 Porsche GT3, which the carmaker claims to be a fearsome track rival, is able to finish a lap at the Northern Loop of Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 40 seconds. This figure, which was obtained by top test driver Walter Rohrl during a recent open testing session, is still unofficial.

The carmaker further claims that a couple of seconds more could still be dropped from the lap figure if their test driver was just intent on it. It must be pointed out that there was a report of a fully sport-optioned 911 S ran the Northern Loop recently making it in 7 minutes and 56 seconds. Rohrl also managed to finish the lap under the same condition with a Ferrari 430 Scuderia in 7 minutes and 45 seconds. It was pointed out that the Nissan GT-R still can’t better its lap figure last year of 7 minutes and 54 seconds. But Nissan went back to Nurburgring just recently with a slightly updated 2010 GT-R and now claims it has done better than last year with its current lap time of 7 minutes and 27.56 seconds. Although it is noteworthy that the ZR1’s 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds lap time was not mentioned in the interview, but praise was offered to the most current Corvette. Photo gallery after the jump!
