French automaker Renault plans to build three of its new range of four electric cars in France and Spain. Just last week, Renault revealed that it will produce its core-range electric model, a minicar, in its Flins plant, near Paris, starting in 2012. Renault has high expectations for the minicar, which is slated to account for two-thirds of its electric car sales in Europe. Continued after the jump!
After the Twizy ZE Concept, Renault unveiled another car at the Frankfurt Motor Show: the Kangoo ZE Concept. The new car previews the electric vans for commercial use and is programmed to go on sale in 2011. Powered by lithium batteries mounted underneath the dashboard developing 95 hp and 226 Nm of torque, the so called ‘electric van’ has a range if 160 km and a top speed electronically limited to 130 km/h. The Renault Kangoo Be Bop ZE prototype, which comes with all the state-of-the-art technology that will reach production in 2011, is the next step in the carmaker’s intentions to introduce an electric car in the next two years.
The Kangoo will be driven by lithium ion batteries, which will be located under the dash, freeing the trunk for optimized baggage space. A socket located in the front wing is provided for recharging purposes. The Kangoo can be charged via regular household outlets from 6-8 hours, or can be equipped with a three-phase plug which can charge the battery pack up to 80 percent capacity in just half an hour. Included in the power-saving features of the Kangoo are regenerative breaking, and wheels that come with flat surfaces to enhance the flow of air around the vehicle. Renault releases the ultimate version of the Kangoo family, the Kangoo be bop, a model based on the Kangoo Compact Concept showed last year at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new vehicle, called Kangoo Be Bop, features a glazed sliding roof, rear tailgate window which slides out of sight, two tilting glass panels and a fixed central glass panel at front. With the help of the black headlamp masks, specific bumpers, and 16-inch alloy wheels the car has a very original stylish looks. As an option for who wants a piece of the new Kangoo be bop the producer offers the Carminat Bluetooth CD navigation.
With a very attractive price, this system offers all the fundamental multimedia features, namely GPS navigation with traffic information, a 16/9 seven-inch color display and Bluetooth telephony. The car is powered by engines that yield genuine drive ability and which are robust, economical and eco friendly, including two diesel power plants: the 85hp dCi and the 100hp dCi which come with a particulate filter and drives through a six-speed gearbox and the petrol 105hp 1.6 16V unit.
