Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

2010 Subaru OutbackAll carmakers would want to have Subaru’s main problem – which is keeping up with the high demand for a product. The Outback wagon has had tremendous success ever since it debuted last summer.

It’s no wonder that Subaru got the highest percentage US sales increase of any brand last year. In fact, Subaru is expected to continue to outpace the market for the rest of 2010. Starting December, Subaru of Indiana Automotive has boosted the speed of production at its plant for two times now. There are plans to increase the pace again in April and another time in July, with each push standing for a 5%-6% increase in line speed. Continued after the jump!

Rumor: Subaru drops AWD system for its version of the FT-86 a.k.a. 216A

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Subaru 216AThe latest news from Japan’s Best Car magazine, indicate that the ‘Toyobaru’ a.k.a. the 216A variant of the Toyota FT-86 will not feature an AWD system. Why is that?

Apparently the main reason is cost overrun and in order to avoid making the car too expensive, it seems that dropping the AWD system was the best solution. But, if Toyota intends to offer the G Sports version of the FT-86 unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon, then Subaru will also build the STI version of its sports car and this version could be offered with an AWD system, like the Impreza WRX STI. More details to be revealed!

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

2010 Subaru Impreza XV CrossoverSubaru unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show its latest variant in its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Impreza range, the Impreza XV Crossover.

The new car combines the agile road performance with the recreational styling that made the earlier generation Impreza RV and Sportswagon major Subaru successes. It comes with new wheel arch extensions, roof rails, grille, and interior trim. Under the hood it will carry a 2.0-litre petrol capable to deliver 150 hp and 196 Nm or 2.0-litre turbodiesel delivering 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque, both Euro5-compliant. The petrol engine can be mated to a five speed manual or to a four speed automatic transmission, while the diesel only comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.  “This is an exciting model for us because it will broaden our appeal, particularly with younger audiences looking for a car that combines fun and safety. The current generation Impreza is the best seller of any to date and we’re confident that Impreza XV will add to that success, given the earlier achievements of recreation-themed versions of the car.” said one of the Subaru executives.
