Wiesmann to build a sports car during the Frankfurt Motor Show

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Wiesmann GT MF4Wiesmann offers a special treat to those who will be attending the Frankfurt Motor Show as everyone will get to witness the luxury sports car maker build a GT MF4 during the car exhibition event. The world premiere of the Wiesmann Roadster MF5 will also be made during the show.

Business manager Friedhelm Wiesmann said that the decision to mount a car for everyone to view came about so that the company “will be able to show [its] manufacturing skills and [its] productive efficiency to the exhibition-visitors, the customers, and the media-exponents.” The GT MF4 will be installed with a 4.8-liter 367 horsepower engine. If you can’t be there, you can still view the process as a digital webcam will be recording every detail. The logistic for this one very special event has already started because the montage had to start back in Duelmen. Wiesmann is also very excited about finding two major partners for this event. The magazine auto motor und sport (www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/iaa) will act as media partner and will broadcast the event website. Tool-manufacturer Festool will provide the tools needed for the carbuilding. Just so you know where to go directly, Wiesmann is exhibiting at Booth B18 in Hall 5.

For those who don’t know, the MF5 carries the spectacular V10 engine capable to deliver 507 hp (and 520 Nm of torque) and currently found on the M5 and M6, which makes the German car a real beast.

Regarding the performances of the vehicle, these are also impressive: the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is made in just 3.9 seconds while the top speed is limited to 310 km/h! The convertible version will also be capable to offer these performance, or maybe even better but there is one interesting fact that might make us sad: the MF5 Convertible will be built in just 55 units so if you want one and you think you got the money just go for it!

Wiesmann GT test vehicle crashed on the Autobahn

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Wiesmann MF4-SThis is the second time in succeeding months (in the other accident a Porsche driver died when testing 998 Cabriolet prototype) that an accident involving test vehicles took place on Friday the Thirteenth, a day that many superstitiously consider a day of bad luck.

This month the accident happened in Autobahn A31 in Germany between the exits Gescher and Legden in the direction of Emden involving a Wiesmann GT prototype. No one was killed on this one, unlike the one that happened last month involving a Porsche prototype where the driver was not as lucky. The report says that the Wiesmann was travelling on the left lane of the freeway when a red BMW E30 changed lanes from right to left but it did not see the Wiesmann on its left. When the Wiesmann saw the Bimmer, it tried to avoid a collision and veered further left into a guard rail which it tried to avoid, too. When the Wiesmann swung back to the right a truck was already there and it smashed into it. To make matters worse, a smaller truck that was pulling a trailer along could not stop in time and it plowed into the Wiesmann making it a total write-off. There was another car involved in the accident into which the smaller truck also smashed. Two people were reportedly injured and authorities are looking for witnesses and for the BMW which did not stop after the incident took place. The damage caused by the accident is around €150,000 according to some estimates.
