Lexus LFA demand exceeds the limited run of 500 units

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Lexus LFAAs you may know already, the Lexus LFA was introduced back in October, at the Tokyo Motor Show and has been greeted by critical and public acclaim worldwide. Lexus also announced that the vehicle will be produced in limited edition of just 500 units, each priced at $375,000.

Now here is the ”big” problem… according to the manufacturer the interest in purchasing a LFA supercar is already greater than the limited production run of just 500 examples. Now don’t be sad, because Lexus says that you can still register your interest up to mid-March and the end of the Geneva Motor Show – we don’t exactly understand why since the demand is higher than the number of cars! Toyota won’t make any profit from the Lexus LFA

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Lexus LFA There won’t be any profit to be made from the Lexus LFA due to the high cost incurred from developing and constructing it. However, insiders say that the company’s aim was to create a halo car for the brand. And Toyota did just that after spending six years in development.

Only 500 LFAs will be produced, selling for €375,000 each. In the UK, only 17 LFAs will be sold. So far Lexus has taken two orders. The car is packed with technology, including the bespoke engine with a 9000rpm redline. Powered by a 552bhp 4.8-litre V10, the LFA is able to hit 62mph in 3.7sec and has a top speed of 202mph. Carbonfiber-reinforced plastic is extensively used by Toyota for the chassis construction and body panels. All the parts on the LFA is new, with only five parts found as well on other Toyota and Lexus products. Photo gallery after the jump!

2009 Tokyo Motor Show: Lexus LFA breaks cover

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Lexus LFAWith the ocassion of the 41st Tokyo Motor Show, Lexus finally revealed the LFA Supercar… a new vehicle that promises to deliver a supreme driving experience.

According to the manufacturer the main idea of the LFA project was to keep the car’s weight to an absolute minimum and in order to achive this, Lexus switched from using aluminium for the car’s construction to advanced Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) for the chassis and bodywork. For those who don’t know, the CFRP is four times stronger than aluminium and offers an exceptionally stiff and strong structure delivering major weight advantages and saving around 100kg on an equivalent aluminium body. So, per total, Lexus used CFRP for 65 per cent of the body-in-white, with aluminium alloy used for the remaining 35 per cent. More details and photos after the jump!

Frankfurt Motor Show: Mansory Cyrus based on Aston Martin DB9

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Mansory CyrusFrom a DB9, the tuners from Mansory have created an Aston Martin One-77 lookalike, dubbed the Cyrus. Mansory is known for its outlandish creations and has provided an alternative to the limited edition One-77, which will go into production several months from now.

The lookalike will be made from aerospace-grade carbonfiber and the price will be €380,000  on top of the €124,000 for a new DB9. Quite expensive you might think but it still does fall short of the anticipated €1.3 million cost for the One-77. The Mansory DB9 rides on 20-inch alloys at the front and 21-inch at the rear. The interior is decked out with extra aluminum and carbonfiber, with Cyrus logos stitched into the headrests. Mansory has pushed for an extra 28bhp from the Aston’s V12. A version of the DBS is also available.
