Caterham makes its debut on the Chinese market

2011 Caterham Seven

The Chinese market will get its first taste of Caterham Cars after an exclusive deal was entered recently with new importer, Courtenay Trading International. On the first year of operation, the Seven (its modern day version of a classic Lotus) will go on sale in China. Over the next year, CTI will name six dealers in major provinces of China.

It is aiming for initial sales of between 30 and 50 Sevens in its first year. Caterham will offer all of its current EU5-compliant cars (Roadsport 120, Superlight 120, Roadsport 175, Superlight R300 and CSR 175) in China. Delivery of the Seven units will start in January 2012. This actually isn’t the first time that Caterham has sold its units in Asia as it has long been present in the Far East, especially in Japan.

David Ridley, Caterham Cars’ International Business Manager, said that this is “one of the most exciting new chapters in the Caterham Cars story” and is considered a clear sign of how the company wants to be seen as a “truly global brand.” Its association with CTI means that Caterham is given a platform where it could launch new models like the Caterham-Lola SP/300.R, a sports prototype it launched in January this year and that had debuted at the Autosport International Show. Caterham wants to produce 25 units of the car this year. Caterham claims to have taken 14 orders of the 300hp lightweight racers.
