Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept

Men aren't particularly clamoring for small cars but if there's one that most appeals to them, it would be the model that‚ inspired by the Aveo RS Concept, according to General Motors Co. Vice Chairman Bob Lutz. The model, which is currently showcased at the Detroit Auto Show, is a sportier version of the current Aveo budget car that hints at the next-generation car due in 2011. Lutz describes the car to be a "pocket rocket" but he said that he wants to juice it up more as he and Vice Chairman Tom Stephens are not satisfied with its 1.4-liter turbo. Lutz added that they're currently working to give it more horsepower.

The car has a six-speed manual transmission and the same 1.4-liter, 138-hp turbocharged engine that will be available in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze small car. Compared to the current Aveo, the five-door hatchback is longer, wider and has more space. Its design is inspired my motorcycle styling and is evident by its protruding headlights and taillights.

The Aveo, which rides on 19-inch wheels, has blue interior stitching and blue backlit electronic displays similar to its electric blue exterior color. The brake calipers, which show through the wheel openings, are also blue. The handles on the rear doors are hidden in the C-pillar but a small spoiler flows off the rear roof. For extra space, the rear seats fold flat. The current Aveo is built in South Korea but the next-generation Aveo will be manufactured next year at GM's plant in Orion Township, Mich.
