Chevrolet Camaro V6 might get a power boost to take on the Mustang V6

2011 Chevrolet Camaro

The rivalry between the Camaro and Mustang heats up further. Currently, Ford's V-6 model has the edge since it provides better fuel economy and more horsepower for the 2011 model year than the 2010 Camaro. However, Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette marketing manager John Fitzpatrick said that the entry-level Mustang's horsepower lead may be temporary. According to the recently released specifications on the 2011 Mustang, fuel economy is improved tremendously with 19/31 mpg city/highway.

The Mustang's new 3.7-liter unit is exactly one horsepower more than the 3.6-liter, 304-horsepower V-6 Camaro.

Fitzpatrick said that Chevrolet will certainly seek to upgrade its model soon. The 2010 Camaro V-8 has a 426hp output while the 2011 Mustang offers 412hp. He added that the details on the new 2011 Camaro are slated to arrive in a few weeks. He said that he believes Ford is using the Camaro as a benchmark.
