Chevrolet Corvette will return to the U.K. in 2011

British consumers will be deprived of the Chevrolet Corvette no more as officially imported models from GM's muscle car lineup will start selling through Chevrolet dealerships in the UK next May. Since previous importer Kroymans had closed down last year, the British haven't had anywhere to go to for their Corvette orders. Chevrolet UK is currently considering getting European type approval for Corvette's complete model range: C6, Z06, Grand Sport and the extreme ZR1. Corvettes will be offered beside Camaro coupe and convertible models, last officially available in the UK in 1976.
They are powered by a 426bhp 6.2-liter V8 engine. European type approval for the Camaro is anticipated to be given early next year. Chevrolet is currently working to develop a distribution, parts and retail network for the Corvette and Camaro. It is also finalizing Corvette pricing, which is likely to be similar to the levels last year. Bauer Millett in Manchester is the first UK dealer to offer the cars.
In an interview with Autocar, Chevrolet UK MD Mark Terry said that these cars won't be volume sellers and will instead be "brand builders." He described Camaro and Corvette to be both icons that can act as a hook to other cars in its lineup. Before the pair is launched, Chevrolet will release its Orlando MPV. At the Paris show next month, a near-production model will be unveiled. The first cars are expected to reach UK showrooms early next year.
