It is reported that General Motors will not be showing any Chevrolet brand cars at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Chevrolet said that it will not have a show area at Frankfurt.
Having shown the Cruze compact car and the Spark at the Geneva event has left the carmaker with nothing new to display at Frankfurt. For the first three months of this year, Chevrolet has sold less than 50,000 units in the European market. Chevrolet has to be very wise about its investments considering the current financial situation and having a display stand at the Frankfurt will cost more than $1 million and no less. The display of GM at the Frankfurt event includes Opel, Saab, Hummer, Cadillac and Corvette. The auto shows have been suffering of late as carmaker tend to pull out of shows where they perceive their brands are not strong enough. Besides Chevrolet, the pullouts from the Frankfurt include Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi.
