Chevrolet’s eco-friendly new cars and trucks will get special ‘Ecologic’ labels

Chevrolet wants the eco-friendly benefits of its vehicles to be easily seen on the back window of all its new cars and trucks. General Motors will begin to place these labels on the 2012 Chevy Sonic this March on the driver side rear window. Later this year, the so-called “Ecologic” labels will begin to be seen on other 2013 Chevy vehicles. The information on these labels includes details on fuel-saving technologies, the recyclability of the vehicle at the end of its lifecycle, and green aspects to its manufacturing.
GM asserts that the Two Tomorrows, an independent company that specializes in sustainability, has audited the claims made on the label. The Chevrolet label is not the same as the Environmental Protection Agency window sticker, which the government provides so that buyers could compare the fuel economy of new vehicles.
However, GM said that it will go the extra distance so that consumers could get additional information. For example, the Sonic label would have the car’s features, like its recyclability and technologies that affect fuel savings, together with the benefits to the owner. In a statement, GM North America President Mark Reuss said that customers are right in wanting companies to be “honest and transparent about their environmental efforts and sustainability goals.” He added that placing Ecologic labels on all Chevrolet units is just one more way for the company to share its environmental progress.
