Chevrolet has decided to model its 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series car after a 2013 Camaro. This is quite a departure from its move to model the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup car after the upcoming 2014 SS sedan. This similarity is mostly centered on the front clip, as surfaces behind the cowl and A-pillars mostly resemble Chevrolet’s current Nationwide Series car, which supposedly resembles an Impala SS. This isn’t astonishing since efforts by Ford and Dodge to pattern their Nationwide cars after the Mustang and Challenger, respectively, are mostly limited to the front clip. Even then, the Camaro’s front clip is a remarkable replica of a street-going Camaro. The Camaro is different from the Nationwide Mustang, which is so much like the production car simply though decals. The Camaro’s front clip uses several three-dimensional elements to help make it appear like the real one. Jim Campbell, vice president of Chevy’s Performance Vehicles and Motorsports operations, said that among the cues are a recessed grille, prominent bowtie emblem, and power bulge hood. So far, there are very few details or pictures but Chevrolet asserts that the Nationwide Camaro will be ready to compete at next year’s season opener at Daytona. The Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger will then be seen racing against each other for the first time since the Trans-Am series of the 1970s.
