Chevy Volt was not yet tested, says EPA regarding to 230mpg range

2010 Chevrolet VoltControversy is brewing after General Motors made the statement that its upcoming Chevy Volt boasts of a 230-mile per gallon city rating as determined by EPA‚ new methodology. The EPA has said that it has not tested the Chevy Volt and thus cannot confirm the fuel economy values claimed by GM. Rather than being offended however, the EPA is applauding GM‚ commitment to designing and building the car of the future that will ‚Äúsave families money, significantly reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create good-paying American jobs.‚Äù The EPA added that it‚ proud to see American companies lead the world in ‚Äúclean energy innovations.‚Äù From the statement released by GM‚ CEO Fritz Henderson, it‚ notable that he didn‚Äôt actually say that the 230 mpg rating came from the EPA. In response to criticism, GM said that it‚ likely that when the EPA does get to test the Volt, the number won‚Äôt be that much different from the 230 rating. [via autoblog]
