General Motors' global marketing, Joel Ewanick, has named Chris Perry (currently Chevrolet's marketing boss) to be the vice president of U.S. marketing starting Feb. 1. As the new U.S. marketing chief, Perry will be overseeing GM's four U.S. brands and the change also aligns him more closely with Ewanick. Both executives are known for having boosted Hyundai’s image in the U.S. before they moved to GM last year. Ewanick had been the U.S. marketing chief until mid-December, when he was named to the new position of global chief marketing officer.
Last August, Ewanick tasked Perry to lead a campaign that aims to exploit the deep ties between Chevy and U.S. buyers. In the statement, Ewanick said that these moves are in line with plans to continue building “very clear and distinct swim lanes” for GM’s four brands. Ewanick also shuffled the leadership at other GM brands.
Rick Scheidt, 57 years old, executive director of Chevrolet product marketing, will have Perry’s job as vice president of Chevrolet marketing. Scheidt has worked for GM since 1980, mainly in Chevy’s marketing positions. Tony DiSalle, 46 years, has been appointed as the head of U.S. marketing for Buick. He worked in marketing the plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt. In addition, John Schwegman, 46 years, who started serving as vice president of U.S. marketing for Buick and GMC in March, will stay as head of GMC marketing.
