Chrysler aims to redesign seven models or more

Chrysler aims to redesign seven or more models in the next 18 months, as part of its strategy to increase domestic market share. This target is included in its five-year plan that the public will actually know more about when it will be unveiled on November 4. The Detroit Free Press said that the 18-month timeframe represents half the time these projects would need before stepping in bankruptcy and becoming a Fiat ally. In line with these plans, Chrysler will take several measures, including hiring new people and purchasing parts, interiors and workstations.
In a statement, Sergio Marchionne confirmed that the company does have these optimistic plans. He added that all the work that the company has put in since June has been leading towards providing the framework to "effectively drive volume over the medium to long term." In addition, Marchionne attempts to explain the sales decrease in September that is only to be expected because the Cash for Clunkers program had been terminated.
He said that the September sales are "not relevant for Chrysler's future." He explained that September is not an indication of future performance and he isn't discounting the possibility that the October sales would have similar numbers. He asked people to wait until November before making any conclusions. He said, "The future is a lot a lot better than the market share in September would indicate."
