Chrysler and Fiat considering a collaboration

There are reports that point to the fact that it is not only the US government that is extending help to the ailing car manufacturer as Chrysler strikes a mutually-beneficial collaboration with Fiat. Fiat, the third largest car producer in Europe, which partnered with GM previously, is keen to extend its horizons into North America and America's third largest automaker is likewise keen to expand offshore. This symbiosis may be what these two companies need to weather the financial storm. On one hand, Fiat needs the manufacturing capability and dealer networks of Chrysler while on the other hand, Chrysler needs platforms for small cars and the framework to extend to Latin American markets both of which Fiat can provide.
