Chrysler and Fiat are planning to make their presence known in China. Reuters reports that the two companies intend to find a Chinese maker to build something on Chrysler's C Platform, which underpins the Jeep Compass and Patriot, and Dodge Caliber. The past two years, Chrysler was observed scrambling to enter a tie-up with other carmakers. One of the more serious negotiations was with Chinese automaker Chery regarding a vehicle based on the 2006 Hornet concept car and the A1.

Currently, Chrysler exports 10 of its models to China. Fiat has partnered with Chinese car company Guangzhou which, in turn, is also allied with Honda and Toyota to build a factory where Guangzhou will build cars on Fiat platforms.

Chrysler has approached Guangzhou as well. It is speculated that the easiest route would be for Chrysler to simply expand the partnership via Fiat.
