Chrysler Group replacing owner’s manuals with DVDs

To cut costs and to save 930 tons of paper each year, Chrysler Group is doing away with the conventional owner's manuals and is distributing the information on DVDs instead. Chrysler will implement the change starting with the 2010 models. If you really still want to have a manual you can leaf through, you still can since Chrysler will be providing an abridged printed guide together with the DVD.
By shifting away from the paper manuals, which were often more than 500 pages thick, Chrysler expects to see "substantial savings." Spokesman Bryan Zvibleman did not state a figure of how much exactly the company will save. With a few clicks, the owner may now search the content on the DVD at the convenience of one's home or on the vehicle's entertainment systems.
Included on the DVDs are the owner's manual, warranty information, direction for navigation and entertainment systems and a guide for 24-hour towing assistance. Someone even made the excellent suggestion to provide video tutorials for some instructions, such as folding down a Jeep Wrangler's soft top. If in case you lose the DVD, there's nothing to worry since the information will also appear on Chrysler's brand Web sites.
