Chrysler Group’s Jeep Wrangler plant to be shut down due to parts shortages

Chrysler Group's Jeep Wrangler plant, known as Toledo Supplier Park , will be closed next week because of a parts shortage. It appears that this decision came about due to financial pressure in the North American auto supply chain. We don't know many details about the shortage since Chrysler spokesman Max Gates had declined to say what the part was or which supplier makes it, says Autonews. Two vehicles are manufactured by the plant, the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited four-door. In a release, the company said that the shutdown is caused by "continued stress in the automotive supply chain." Just for 2009, 20 U.S. suppliers have filed for bankruptcy protection in U.S. courts. This figure excludes smaller suppliers or companies that have gone out of business without filing for bankruptcy.
