A poll on twitter about the diesel-powered high-performance Chrysler product was initiated by chief Chrysler designer and boss of the new SRT performance brand. Ralph Gilles asked his 4,000 followers: “How many out there would roll in a Diesel SRT? Which type? Thx.” Consumers haven’t been very quick in embracing the diesel-powered passenger cars but the many followers of Gilles gave their ideas, ranging from quite a practical Ram diesel, to Dart diesel (which is less-likely) to the diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee (the most probable). Chrysler has already declared that it will offer a non-SRT diesel-powered Grand Cherokee for the 2014 model year. Gilles, in one tweet, said that he is “fascinated” with diesel. He said, “Torque can be addictive to canyon carver to commuter a well designed Diesel can be a weapon in real world driving plus astonishing mileage!” Gilles hinted that a diesel-SRT model would be almost a sure thing within the decade. However, there may be other models being considered as Gilles commented that he would also want to create a street version of Travis Pastrana’s Global Rally Cross Dodge Dart race car.
