Chrysler to focus on its longer restructuring goals

Chrysler is focusing on its longer restructuring goals so much that it is willing to let market share slide, according to chief executive Sergio Marchionne as he presented his business plan to the Congress last Tuesday. It was also announced that Chrysler's Sterling Heights, Mich., assembly plant would remain open into 2011 while the plant, where the Sebring and Dodge Avenger roll off the line, would close as part of its North American restructuring. U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., whose district includes Sterling Heights, said Marchionne had said that the Sebring would be a "big part" of Chrysler's business plan for the revamped mid-sized sedan segment even if it ends up being manufactured somewhere other than Sterling Heights in the long run.
