Chrysler to promote its Dodge Ram nameplate to a full brand

Dodge Logo

From Fiat's plans for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep that were announced earlier in the week, you may have noticed that Ram was left out. The Ram brand had been reserved for Chrysler Co.'s truck offerings but now, an initiative is reportedly in the works that would promote the Ram as a standalone brand, focusing exclusively on vans, SUVs, commercial vehicles, and pickups. Among Fiat's plans are its intentions to put Chrysler up against Cadillac and Dodge to focus on driving dynamics.

It would mean that Dodge is moving away from heavy-duty products and will face tremendous competition in the compact, mid-size and performance segments. It is likely though that Alfa Romeo will assist Dodge in the form of joint product development.

However in Europe, Dodge had only been introduced in 2006 and will not benefit from the reworked branding and products. It is probable that Chrysler Group's European arm will drop Dodge abroad in the future.
