A reinterpretation of the classic Cisitalia 202 as a modern day sports car will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show. The Cisitalia 202 E is the full scale model of a thesis project assigned by the European Institute of Design of Turin to a group of Master of Arts in Transportation Design students. This Cisitalia 202 E ("Evolution") design concept is the ninth one that has been presented by this school at this show. It could be recalled that industrialist Piero Dusio has commissioned the Cisitalia 202 in 1947 to be designed by Battista "Pinin" Farina. It is regarded as one of the finest units of an automobile's body built as a single shell. For the period from 1947 to 1952, just 170 units were built. Nowadays, if you want to see a pristine example of the Cisitalia 202, you’d have to go to the New York's Museum of Modern Art permanent collection. IED's interpretation uses the design theme of "sculpture in motion." The 202 Evolution has a rear mounted V8 engine, which delivers 450hp. This fails in comparison to the four-cylinder 1,089 cc engine with 55 hp (41 kW) used on the original 202. The Cisitalia 202 weighs just 780 lbs (354 kg) and is capable of reaching a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).
