Citroën will be launching its new Electric Berlingo at the Hanover Motor Show, slated to take place from September 18 to 27, 2012 in Germany. The second-generation of Electric Berlingo van demonstrates the carmaker’s commitment to electric vehicles. The new Electric Berlingo is endowed with the latest electric vehicle technology and is still blessed with the award-winning qualities of the current Berlingo range, including load volumes of up to 4.1 cubic metres and a payload capacity of 675kg. The Electric Berlingo was deeply inspired by the Citroën first-generation Berlingo Electrique van, which was available in the United Kingdom until November 2005. The second-generation Electric Berlingo van is the latest proof of the French carmaker’s resolve to minimise the environmental impact of its advanced car and LCV ranges.
The Citroën range now includes models that feature e-HDi micro-hybrid technology and Hybrid4 technology in DS5. Various parts of the van’s electric powertrain are contained under the bonnet or beneath other areas of the body shell, allowing the Electric Berlingo to carry large load volume or carrying capacity. The van’s two-part battery pack is fitted under its flat load deck, allowing its load compartment to have the same characteristics as in traditionally powered models.
The Electric Berlingo has a total battery capacity of 22.5kWh, allowing it to travel up to 106 miles (170 km) on a single charge. When the power runs out, an owner could charge the batteries of the Electric Berlingo in two ways. The batteries could be charged in normal mode, which lasts between 6 and 12 hours, depending on the available current. The batteries could also be filled with power through the quick-charge mode, in which the power sources could be charged to 80% of their capacity in just 30 minutes. The motor of the Electric Berlingo, developed with Mitsubishi Motors Corp., provides up to 49kW (67hp) in output and up to 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a speed reducer and a single-ratio gearbox.
