The Clan Cruiser is a new British sports car which is being developed by a start up company headquartered in Sheffield called Clan Cars. The new sports car is a two-door coupe propelled by a 1.8-liter Rover K-series powerplant (currently being built in China) which can produce 275hp.
The first Clan Cruiser prototype is set to run this coming May, and the company intends a one-make race series utilizing a competition variant of the vehicle. The brand name Clan was initially connected with lightweight, rear-engined, rear-drive coupe patterned on the Hillman Imp running gear. The current premises of the company was once the home of Ginetta Cars, a company which Martin Phaff, owner of Clan Cars, helped in the 90s to make a turn around. There were about 350 Clan Cruisers (first designed in the latter part of the 60s) that were made between 1971 and 1974 and with 150 more between 1982 and 1987.
