After Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn leaves his post as president of ACEA (the European auto industry's lobbying body), Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche will take over on January 1. Zetsche said that ACEA members have clearly set a priority for defined sustainable mobility for the near as well as long-term future. ACEA reportedly believes that the European auto industry will emerge stronger from the financial and economic crisis. Brussels-based ACEA represents the interests of the 15 European car, truck and bus manufacturers at an EU level. Zetsche said that he looks forward to being able to work closely with the newly elected European Parliament and the new European Commission in order to "help maintain a thriving automobile industry in Europe and strengthen our global technology leadership." In addition to countering the economic crisis, ACEA's other priorities for 2010 include road safety and working with the EU to relieve automakers' regulatory burdens and trade liberalization.
