Daimler CEO Zetsche expects 2011 to be “tough” for European carmakers

Even as the economy in Europe is on the rise, it’s likely that carmakers will find the upcoming year to be a tough one, according to Dieter Zetsche, president of auto industry group ACEA. Zetsche, who also serves as Daimler AG's CEO, said that the European automobile industry is on the road to recover from the financial and economic crisis. However, the macro economic circumstances in Europe continue to be “very challenging.”
Zetsche has recently been re-elected president of this lobby group. Zetsche said that what ACEA plans for 2011 is to concentrate on sustainable mobility, improe road safety and enhance the global competitiveness of the EU automotive industry.
Zetsche claims that through the crisis, Europe's automakers have remained in the “fast lane…to sustainable mobility.” He added that having a "well-designed and executed EU industrial policy” would make a “tangible difference” to ACEA's aims. ACEA promotes the interests of European car, truck and bus manufacturers at the EU level. [via autonews - sub. required]
