Daimler AG predicts that it will achieve double-digit growth in its North Asia sales next year, according to Ulrich Walker, the chairman and CEO of Daimler Northeast Asia. At a media briefing last Monday, Walker said that the North Asia region is on track to sell 95,000 vehicles, including cars, trucks and vans, this year.
The North Asia region is composed of mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. China, of course, is now the biggest auto market in the world and Daimler expects that its sales growth in China will exceed the projected industry average of 15 percent next year. Continued after the jump!
Walker said that the company‚ sales projection would represent a sharp drop from its 2009 passenger-vehicle sales growth target in China, which is likely to be between 64 percent and 68 percent.
Helping fuel Daimler‚ growth in China is the scheduled launch of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class medium-premium car in mid-2010, along with loans offered by its own financing unit.
Unfortunately, the sales trend in other countries cannot be said to be as optimistic. Daimler's Mercedes-Benz unit sold 8,500 cars in China in November, a 224% increase from a year earlier.
Walker also asserted that full-year sales in 2009 in China were expected to outperform its previous target of 65,000.
