Daimler plans a grand celebration for the 125th anniversary on its first patent filing. For starters, Daimler will kick off the anniversary year on January 29 at the Mercedes-Benz World in Stuttgart. In 1886, Carl Benz filed for a patent at the Berlin Patent Office for the now famous vehicle with gas engine drive. Chancellor Angela Merkel has been reported to have confirmed her attendance for the January event.

Dieter Zetsche, Daimler chairman of the board, said that Daimler and Benz’s invention “changed the world for the better and will continue to do so.” He also said that the carmaker has “many ideas” on how it will shape the future of mobility, with “fascinating brands, green technologies and new business opportunities.” In 2011, Daimler will bear the motto: “125! years of innovation.” A publicity campaign for Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars will be launched in January. And from May to September, it will have the guest exhibition ART 125! at Mercedes-Benz World.

Dr Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the board of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: “The invention of Daimler and Benz changed the world for the better - and it will continue to do so. As the inventor we also have the claim to shape the future of mobility: with fascinating brands, green technologies and new business opportunities. We have many ideas!"
