Daimler will spend 600 million euros to expand its compact car plant
Included in Daimler AG’s budget to spend on its German manufacturing plants for the years 2009 to 2010 are plans to spend 600 million euros ($895.9 million) to expand its compact car plant in Rastatt , Germany. Mercedes-Benz A- and B-class cars are being produced at the Rastatt plant that had opened in 1992.
Its annual production is more than 250,000 units. In Hungary , on Oct. 16, Daimler broke ground for a 800-million euro new factory. The plant will begin building compact cars from the follow-up generation to the current A class and B class in 2012. In the event that the main plant in Rastatt is unable to meet additional capacity needs, its 100,000-capacity Hungarian plant., located in Kecskemet, 90km southeast of Budapest, will make up for it. Daimler plans to broaden its compact car range to four models from two to be able to enter new customer groups and expand into new markets.
