Bentley is currently prepping up a new model for its Continental car, but it won't debut until the early part of 2011, however. There are some details concerning the model that have surfaced. The first in the Continental line will be the GT Coupe which will be followed a year after by the Flying Spur sedan, which will likewise be followed by the GTC Convertible after another 12 months, with Speed models reserved for the middle of the generation in 2015. The current Bentley language will receive increasing changes with emphasis on aerodynamics to enhance efficiency and speed, thus a smoother and refined Continental version is to be anticipated.
The next-generation Continental will have more in common with its corporate sibling the Audi A8 although all visible features will remain purely Bentley. The car lowers weight with the use of lightweight materials and design, thus boosting efficiency and performance while permitting longer wheelbase and consequently make the Coupe come with a more spacious interior. The biggest change on the Continental will be on its potency with the inclusion of a 375hp (280kW) 4.2 liter V8 turbodiesel powerplant in the engine lineup.
Also included will be an uprated version of the W12 unit that can generate 580hp (432kW) and 515lb-ft (697Nm) of torque on tap in the regular versions. The Speed version will get power bumps to 650hp (485kW). Drastic options could be offered should the auto market go through more transformations than has happened in the preceding 8 months. The new Continental will come with a price tag between $180,000-$200,000 beginning 2011.
