2011 Bmw Z4 sDrive35is revealed ahead of Detroit Auto Show

Article by Christian A., on January 29, 2010

Bmw wanted to make us a surprise before Christmas and unveiled today the new Z4 sDrive35is, a more powerful version of the sporty coupe-cabrio which will make its debut as a 2011 model at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. So, what is so special about this new model?

Well, according to the German manufacturer the new Z4 model is characterized by instantaneous response to the accelerator pedal, a new sound of the engine and a free-revving spirit.

Under the hood of this car we find a powerful 3.0-liter gasoline engine capable to deliver 335 hp @ 5,900 rpm and an impressive torque of 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) from 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. With these numbers, the car can hit 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds (preliminary) and has a top speed limited electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

Also, the inline-6 engine is mated to a 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission (DCT), combines twin turbochargers with High Precision direct injection and due to these facts it is expected to offer more power and performance without an increase in fuel consumption or emissions. Other technologies offered are Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering, and on-demand operation of engine accessory units.

The remarkable Double-Clutch Transmission also features a Launch Control function for maximum performance when accelerating from a standstill. As you can see from the photos, the vehicle comes with new M sport upgrades such as M Aerodynamics and adaptive M Suspension. The adaptive M Suspension drops the height of the car with up to 10 millimeters (almost 0.4") and comes with electronically controlled shock absorbers (Dynamic Damping Control) to improve the vehicle's agility.

The M Aerodynamics package includes a new front bumper with integrated aluminum trim bar in each outer air intake, a rear bumper with accentuated surrounds on the tailpipes as well as a new rear air diffuser finished at top in body color and black textured surface underneath. The package is completed by the Special 18-inch light-alloy wheels in five-spoke design while 19-inch light-alloy wheels are available as an option.

Inside, we find new features such as an M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, an M footrest and sport seats. And this is not all! The Bavarian manufacturer also offers Anthracite-colored Bmw Individual roof lining, M door sill strips, floor mats with colored piping and the "sDrive35is" model designation, as well as M interior trim in Aluminum Carbon.

Regarding the leather upholstery, Bmw is now offering an additional color variant: Kansas Walnut. The new 2011 Bmw Z4 sDrive35is will be available with choice of six paintwork colors: Alpine White, Titanium Silver, Black Sapphire, Space Grey, Deep Sea Blue and Melbourne Red metallic. No matter what color you choose, the exterior mirror caps on the Bmw Z4 sDrive35is are always Oxide Silver. Expect this car to arrive at the Bmw Centers in Spring 2010.
