2012 Detroit Auto Show: 2013 IPL G Convertible completes Infiniti lineup

Article by Christian Andrei, on January 12, 2012

Starting in the spring of 2012, Infiniti retailers throughout the U.S. will offer the 2013 IPL G Convertible. This is the second model in the Infiniti Performance Line lineup. The new IPL G Convertible, which is based on the standard Infiniti G37 Convertible, mixes a seductive style with a highly engaging driving experience.

The VQ37HR 3.7-liter V6 engine on the IPL G Convertible produces 273 lb-ft of torque (+6 lb-ft) and 343hp, an 18hp increase over the non-IPL G Convertible models.

It is offered with an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching ad magnesium paddle shifters, together with an IPL-tuned suspension and Sport brakes.

Exterior changes when compared to the stock Infiniti G Convertible include the following: a significant front bumper/fascia design with integrated fog lights and black finishers, chrome exhaust tips, sculpted side sills, and an exclusive set of 19-inch IPL split 7-spoke graphite-finish wheels. Its jewel-like look is enhanced with its exterior colors: Moonlight White and Malbec Black.

The interior of the IPL G Convertible is similarly offered in only two color treatments: Stone and IPL-exclusive Monaco Red. It also comes with red-stitched leather-appointed front sport seats, red-stitched steering wheel, and Silk Obi aluminum trim.

Exterior Design

Finished in either Moonlight White or Malbec Black colors, the exterior of the new Infiniti IPL G Convertible is distinguished with an elegantly designed front bumper with integrated fog lights and black finishers as well as round chrome exhaust tips and sculpted side sills.

Its exterior is further accentuated by the exclusive 19-inch IPL split seven-spoke graphite-finish wheels wrapped in low-profile W-rated Bridgestone Potenza RE050A performance tires.

Interior Design

The elegance of the Infiniti IPL G Convertible is not only evident on the exterior, but also in the interior. Available in either Stone or IPL-exclusive Monaco Red, the interior of the IPL G Convertible features leather-appointed red-stitched and Climate-controlled front sport seats with embroidered IPL logos as well as red-stitched steering wheel and IPL embroidered front floor mats.

In addition, the interior is loaded with manual thigh extension, driver's power torso and thigh support adjustment, as well as Silk Obi aluminum trim and aluminum-trimmed pedals and footrest.

Interior elements that could enhance passenger comfort, convenience and enjoyment include, as standard, a 13-speaker Bose Open Air Sound System with AudioPilot 2.0 noise compensation technology and Personal front seat headrest speakers, Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster air purifier and an Adaptive Dual Zone Climate Control that could adjust fan speed and air volume according to the position of the top.

Additional standard interior elements include Infiniti Navigation System with voice recognition (with available XM NavTraffic Real-Time Traffic Information), NavWeather with Real-Time Weather and three-day forecast (XM subscription required), Bluetooth Audio Streaming and Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, as well as Zagat Survey Restaurant Guide and touch screen.

Among the additional features are XM Satellite Radio (XM subscription required), Rear Sonar System, Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition and Remote Keyless Entry system as well as a power tilt/telescoping steering column with increased travel. An illuminated glove compartment and automatic temperature control are also featured as standard.
