It was not a secret anymore that Buick was going to unveil a new vehicle at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, but today this car became official! The American manufacturer officially announced that it will introduce the 2013 Buick Encore at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
According to Buick, the Encore will join the new lineup that has recently seen the additions of the Verano compact luxury sedan, the Regal GS sport sedan, and fuel-efficient eAssist "light electrification" technology on both LaCrosse and Regal.
Moreover, Encore will offer the contemporary styling, signature QuietTuning technology but also features and amenities customers expect from Buicks today. More details to be revealed on January 10, when the car will make its official debut.
Looking at the interior, the organic style implemented in the Buick Encore is present as well especially on the instrument panel that appears to flow and naturally envelopes the door panels. With the central instrument panel being more prominent this time, it is where the large 7-inch full-color LCD display of its voice-activated IntelliLink radio system has been placed.
This is also where one can find the rear camera and navigation systems, in addition of course, to the SiriusXM satellite radio. Helping distinguish the cabin is a modern combination of light and dark. It is highlighted with the ambient lighting in ice blue and the use of wood-grain trim and bright trim.
By having high-density foam on the premium seats, long drives are not an issue as comfort is guaranteed. These same seats are trimmed in a choice between leather or a modern leatherette/cloth theme. Fitted inside as well are the heated steering wheel and the heated front seats. For the rear seat, it has a feature wherein the armrest contains cup holders and can be folded down.
The exterior of the new Encore also shines as it has those elegant and sculpted styling qualities, like the sweeping character lines, that make it immediately recognizable as a modern Buick. This was done to make sure that the new model would follow the global design language for which the brand has long been known for. Other examples of trademark features include the chrome highlights and surrounds, the lower panels being painted, portholes on its hood, and the waterfall grille, all of which can be seen as well on the Enclave.
While it already has that premium look, enhancing it even further are the detailed tail lamps and the projector-beam headlamps with the blue highlights. Equipped as standard are aluminum painted 5-spoke 180inch wheels, though a 7-spoke version in chrome is also offered. Executive director of design David Lyon shared that with the Encore, the crossover segment is once again able to experience a vehicle that combines utility, efficiency, and elegance -- a quality present in the sculptural and timeless design of the brand.
Elemental beauty is seen in the rich details, he added, with its sporty stance showing confidence. In terms of storage capacity, the Encore offers a lot and the same is true for the storage compartments.
At the back of its rear seat, which allows for a split-fold, there is storage space amounting to 18.8 cubic feet, or around 533 liters. However should the rear seat be folded, storage space is increased to 48.4 cubic feet, which is about 1,372 liters. With this amount of space, it is possible to store a bag of golf clubs or even overnight bags for those weekend trips.
Even with its rear seat in place, the space is large enough to put in about six full bags of grocery. For those who need to carry longer items, a number of vehicles would have a problem with that but not the Encore as all that needs to be done is to fold the passenger seat in the front and thus allow items having extra length to be stowed.
