2013 Infiniti JX shows what it is made of at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Infiniti has developed technology for the JX that helps the driver to detect crossing vehicles and objects behind the JX when the transmission is in reverse. It is dubbed the Backup Collision Intervention system, which is the newest among the numerous advanced safety and security systems that Infiniti has brought to the market in the last few years.

Retailers will begin to sell the Infiniti JX nationwide this spring. If a collision is probable, this system could instantly activate the brakes. The Infiniti JX is an exciting addition to the luxury crossover segment as it is intended to excel when it comes to safety, interior flexibility and spaciousness, and advanced hospitality features.

These are the factors that a majority of luxury crossover buyers consider the most. The JX has three rows and comes with all the premium features, performance and innovations that Infiniti has built its reputation on.

The innovative JX offers a stunning style and craftsmanship but its design includes incredible legroom in the three rows and there’s also adequate cargo space behind the 3rd row. Furthermore, it has a ground-breaking multi-mode middle seat design that offers entry to the 3rd row without having to take out a second row child seat. The Infiniti JX is available in both front-wheel drive and with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.

It is powered by a standard 265hp 3.5-liter DOHC V6 partnered to a sport-tuned Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to offer high responsiveness and a smooth and efficient shifting feel.

The JX is the first model from Infiniti to make use of a fuel-efficient CVT, in response to what luxury crossover drivers want – a responsive performance and good fuel efficiency. It is expected to have a fuel economy rating of 23 mpg Highway. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the Infiniti JX35 FWD is US$40,450 while the JX35 AWD model is priced at US$41,550. The company has started to take reservations at InfinitiUSA.com/all-new-JX.

Equipped as standard is the Automatic High Intensity Discharge bi-functional on/off xenon headlights that come with manual levelizers. Standard as well are the fog lights. While the power rear liftgate helps improve utility, the addition of the large taillights with LED provides that unique style to the rear section. Another feature of the Infiniti JX is the power sliding moonroof that has tinted glass and comes with the one-touch open/close.

Standard as well is the sliding sunshade and tilt feature. However a panoramic moonroof is offered and with its power rear sunshade, ensures that passengers sitting in the rear are able to get that airy and open feel. The exterior also has the intermittent windshield wipers with flat blade on the front though made available are rain-sensing windshield wipers, on the front as well. Meanwhile the rear window has the intermittent wiper and there is also a defroster with a timer.

The heated outside mirrors have a power folding function but has the option to have the reverse tilt-down feature. Other features include the courtesy lights on the handle of the front door, rear privacy glass, and the UV-reducing solar glass. For the exterior, a wide range of colors will be offered and this includes exclusive colors. Examples include Diamond Slate, Emerald Graphite, and Glacial Mist.

Colors available on other models of the brand will be available on the Infiniti JX as well like Black Obsidian, Liquid Platinum, Moonlight White, and Midnight Garnet. In terms of shape, the JX is aerodynamic considering that coefficient of drag is measured to be at 0.34. This not only gives its style flair but improves fuel efficiency. The addition of rear tire deflectors, integrated spoiler in the rear, and the underbody spoiler in the front, help make sure that the front end and the rear section experience no lift. This enhances this model’s capability to hold the road.

Interior Design

Looking at the interior of the Infiniti JX, it is easy to see that it bring with it new benchmarks when it comes to hospitality and space. That’s not all as the interior also shows flexibility, a quality that many active families want in a vehicle. Its 2nd row for example has almost six inches of room legroom, and even cargo space, can be adjusted between the 2nd row and the 3rd row as required.

Its 3rd row meanwhile isn’t the usual penalty box given the sufficient amount of knee room and headroom for passengers, be they children or adults. What may be surprising to some is how these two rows have been designed. Particularly, it is easy to get to the 3rd row and this is due to the opening of the doors being wide plus the 2nd row seat having the capability to slide forward.

In addition, since the multi-mode function of the 2nd row gives it that distinct forward movement, it solves the using problem of having to remove the vehicle’s 2nd row child seat in order to get inside or go outside. If the interior is impressive, the exterior can be described as stunning. The exterior of the Infiniti JX shows a more contemporary design mixed in with the right amount of warmth.

Emphasizing these attributes is the crescent cut of the greenhouse and D-pillar, the double-wave hood, and the double arch shape of the front grille and headlight. One can easily say that the new Infiniti JX has those same styling cues seen on the Infiniti Essence Concept. However it interprets this in a manner that meets the requirements of a family luxury crossover and thus allows the design language of the company to move forward. Simply put, it manages to go above the rest as it does not pretend to be what it is not.

As mentioned earlier, ingress and egress to all the rows are made simple and there is even practical access to its cargo area. In addition, visibility is good no matter where one is seated. One of the reasons why it is able to offer ample space in the interior is because even if the overhangs are short, its wheelbase long, and the roofline low, the headroom inside is never compromised. The platform used for the Infiniti JX gets the advantages of a large family passenger vehicle but does not have any of the styling restrictions on its exterior.
