The all-new 2015 Corvette Z06 made its world debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. According to General Motors’ North America president Mark Reuss, the new Z06 promises to take on the most exotic supercars in the world in terms of performance, technology and design.
And, we actually agree Mark Reuss as the new Corvette Z06 is quite impressive. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, we have to tell you that the 2015 Corvette Z06 is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 625 hp and 635 pounds-feet of torque. This means 37 percent more power than the 2014 Corvette Stingray.
GM will offer the Z06 as standard with a seven-speed manual transmission but also with an optional new eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, for those who want more. In terms of design, the 2015 Corvette Z06 has a shape inspired by a jet fighter and but slightly revamped to accommodate the extra power.
As a result, comparing it with the standard Corvette Stingray, the Z06 features larger flared fenders to house the wider wheels (19-inch on the front and 20-inch on the rear) and bigger vents for cooling the engine, brakes and transmission. A carbon fiber hood is also available.
Chevrolet will offer three levels of aerodynamics packages: Z06 with the carbon fiber hood; carbon fiber aero package which adds a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels and a vertical tab on the edge of the spoiler; Z07 package adds aviation-style winglets and a see-through center section of the spoiler for track use. The interior gets unique color schemes as well as a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
