If the Shelby GT350 Mustang is not enough for your, then you should turn tour attention on the new Shelby GT350R Mustang a.k.a. the most track-ready road-going production Mustang ever built. The vehicle was unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and is powered by a 5.2-liter dual-overhead-cam V8 engine that produces more than 500 hp and more than 400 lb-ft of torque.
Power is delivered to via the lightweight carbon fiber wheels, which are offered as standard, making Ford the first major automaker to offers this wheel technology as standard equipment. As you may know already, the carbon fiber wheels are also offered on the Koenigsegg One:1, but you can’t compare the price of the two vehicles.
In addition, Ford says that the wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that feature a rubber compound and a construction unique to Shelby GT350R. Moreover, Ford removed plenty of equipment in order to make the vehicle lighter and according to the press release the GT350R will not arrive with air conditioning, a stereo system, rear seats, trunk floorboard and carpet, backup camera, emergency tire sealer and inflator.
Exhaust resonators were removed too and as a result, the vehicle features a sharper exhaust tone. Thanks to the removed equipment, the GT350R is 130 pounds lighter than the Shelby GT350R Track Pack model. As an option, Ford will offer the Electronics Package, which includes dual-zone air conditioning, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, seven-speaker audio system as well as turn signal mirrors.
As you can see from the photos, the Shelby GT350R was optimized for aerodynamic excellence and just like the GT350 it is fitted with a hood vent for heat extraction and lift reduction, underbody belly pans front and rear, an aggressive rear air diffuser, vented wheel wells, turbulence-reducing fender vents, wheel air curtains and side skirts.
Revisions were made to the front splitter in order to maximize downforce, while the new carbon fiber rear wing moves the car’s center of pressure rearward while improving downforce and lift balance. Other exterior features include the red painted brake calipers, red pin striping a the edges of the optional racing stripes and Shelby GT350R badging. Inside, there is a flat-bottomed steering wheel with a red center mark at the top.
