Hyundai Motor Company revealed at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show the G90 -- its latest model for the Genesis brand. This luxury sedan is envisioned to be Hyundai’s flagship for its model line-up and will be released to the U.S. market. The G90 is expected to compete with the other premium brands in the luxury car segment as it has the top of the line technological innovations with convenience, dynamic performance, and refinement at its highest.
The G90 is the result of work done by the Prestige Design Group. This model gives a strong sign that the 'Athletic Elegance' design characteristic of the brand will clear in future products from Genesis. The outline of the G90 itself shows the refinement and power present.
This includes the pronounced hood, wheelbase, the minimized overhangs, and the surfacing of the rear deck. On the inside, the use of fine materials and different textures is quite evident and when combined with the ergonomics, give the occupants that needed comfort and convenience.
At the center of the different technological innovations available is the GENESIS SMART SENSE, a collection of safety technologies which cover both active safety and passive ones. It not only focuses on the alertness of the driver but it also ensures the safety of the occupants and that of other drivers as well.
The different systems include the Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Smart Blind Spot Detection, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Start. Automatic Emergency Braking system of the G90 for example uses what is called as sensor fusion technology in order to assist the driver in avoiding the possibility of a collision, or if it could not be avoided, reduce the impact at the very least.
What happens is that when the system detects that there is another vehicle that is running at what can be categorized as unsafe closing rate of speed, the system automatically applies the brakes. The same is true when it detects a pedestrian in the same situation.
The system manages to do this as it not only uses the front radar of the Smart Cruise Control system but also the forward camera that the Lane Keep Assist uses, thereby giving an additional margin when it comes to safety. As a result of an exhaustive development conducted by a team of 800 people, the G90 manages to offer what may be the best NVH refinement level for its class.
Each of the details on the interior has been fashioned in a manner that will increase the sense of luxury for the occupants. The interior also makes use of exclusive materials from some of the best artisans in the world. With the application of advanced ergonomic analysis, the driver controls have been positioned perfectly as well as ensuring the comfort of the passengers and even the entertainment features. To ensure that comfort is optimized, the G90 has a power driver 22-way seat.
The G90 also managed to combine its all-wheel-drive H-TRAC system and the Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension which results in optimized vehicle dynamics that ensures ride comfort and road holding even under adverse conditions. Those who get the opportunity to drive the G90 will automatically feel the standards set when it comes to performance.
Fundamental to the Genesis brand, these different characteristic were a result of the development teams conducting meticulous testing not just at the European Technical Center in Nürburgring, Germany, but also at the California Proving Grounds located on the Mojave Desert. Even with its responsiveness and sportiness, the interior of the G90 continues to be refined.
There are two choices for its powertrain with the first one being the direct-injected and twin turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine or the direct-injected 65.0-liter Tau V8 engine which offers more power. While the G90 will be initially launched in the U.S., it will later be released to other markets like Russia, China, and certain Middle Eastern countries. Over the next five years, the company plans to release five more models for the Genesis.
