More capable, smarter, and tougher, these are the three words that best describe the all-new 2018 Ford F-150 Pickup from Ford. This latest offering will become a member of the F-Series truck family, long considered as the best-selling vehicle for a total of 35 years and the best-selling truck in the U.S. for 40 years straight.
It was three years ago when the company revealed the first generation of this model. It had fully utilized the military-grade high-strength aluminum alloy for the body. Now the new model is fitted with better engines and sports a new style for both the front and the rear. It even has a number of innovative technologies equipped like the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection.
Aside from capability, the 2018 F-150 makes good on the Built Ford Tough commitment through a good use of different advanced materials that not only prevent corrosion but also make it more durable. The use of high-strength steel for the boxed ladder frame and the same aluminum alloy of the first generation ensure that the F-150 is lightweight and truly capable.
In terms of being smarter, the new F-150 will have technologies inside that are considered to be pioneering for the light-duty pickup truck class. Exclusive to this segment, the various technologies result in the new model having better productivity, enhanced efficiency, and improved driver confidence, while ensuring that everyone inside continue to be connected to the outside world. This is possible through the integrated 4G LTE modem that allows for a Wi-Fi hot spot.
New to the segment will be the adaptive cruise control that comes with the stop-and-go feature. This system allows drivers to set a specific speed and distance. The system then ensures that the F-150 is does not exceed that speed or go beyond the distance set. Another first for this segment is the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection which helps the driver avoid, or at the very least, mitigate any possible collisions not only with other vehicles but even with pedestrians.
President of Ford, The Americas, Joe Hinrichs, shared that whether for work or fun, truck owners always want to find new ways to enhance productivity. The brand has long been the source of the favorite truck of America, going as far back as 1977, he added. Since then, he continued, the brand has made sure that it will continue to retain that leadership position. Through the F-150, Ford is simply showing that it remains committed to helping customers with the constant innovation, Hinrichs concluded.
