2010 Lexus HS250h

The 2009 Detroit Auto Show came with a premiere for Lexus: the Japanese manufacturer revealed its brand new 2010 HS 250h hybrid vehicle. The new HS 250h is Lexus' fourth hybrid and according to the manufacturer, this will be the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its lineup. Placed between the IS luxury sport sedan and the ES luxury sedan, the new HS 250h will be the first vehicle from Lexus to to utilize carbon-neutral Ecological Plastic materials in a new futuristic cockpit and interior design.

Under the hood of the vehicle we find a 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle powerplant developing 187 hp and according to the manufacturer the fuel efficiency will be more than 30-percent better than the most fuel-efficient model currently in the Lexus lineup. The new engine features new technologies such as cooling piston oil jets, optimized balance shaft rate for improved Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) characteristics, new hot-air venting system mounted behind the radiator and an innovative exhaust heat recovery system which reduces the warm-up time of the engine.

Also a new windshield with infrared-ray (IR) is available keeping the interior more cools which has been developed in order to decrease the amount of air conditioning needed to lower the interior temperature. Besides this system, the LED headlamps also contribute at the fuel efficiency and emissions.

As we said earlier the interior of the vehicle (almost 30%) features "Ecological Plastics" a.k.a. bio-plastics, a material that emits less carbon dioxide during a product's lifecycle than plastic made solely from petroleum. The interior also comes with standard leather-trim seats, a stylish moonroof, premium audio system, integrated satellite radio (subscription required), USB iPod connectivity and voice recognition. The most interesting thing is the new Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System, featuring a retractable navigation screen that is positioned well back and up front in the dash.

A new 10 airbag system will be standard on the new hybrid as well as the Lexus' Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system and optional Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. A camera mounted in the front grille will provide a 190-degree front view on the navigation screen. The HS 250h features also uniquely designed standard 17- and optional 18-inch wheels. The new 2010 Lexus HS 250h will be available in late summer. The price tag was not confirmed yet!
