Devon GTX supercar will not go into production

Plans to start selling the 650 hp Devon GTX during the first quarter of 2010 have been canceled. According to a source familiar with the project, the reason for the cancelation is that the Viper was going to be discontinued.
The Devon GTX, which is powered by an 8.4-liter V-10 engine, was tested last year at Laguna Seca and Willow Springs where it set two unofficial track records. Based on a Dodge Viper platform, the GTX is able to save weight by using an aircraft-quality carbon fiber body. The GTX was designed as a "quintessentially American" vehicle. Devon Motorworks had initially planned to sell 36 vehicles per year but it became uncomfortable with the volume commitment a partner required to keep the project going.
