Donato Coco is Lotus’ new director of design

Donato Coco has been named as Lotus' new director of design, a newly created role. Before getting attached to this post, Coco served as director of design and development for Ferrari, which led him to work on the 458 Italia, the F430, the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M officially unveiled, the California and the 599XX. Coco will officially start on January 4. Coco appears to have followed the footsteps of Lotus CEO Dany Bahar, who had been a top sales executive for Ferrari.
In a statement, Bahar said that the next few years will be "very busy." Bahar said that the company is working on a new strategic business plan that will include the introduction of an all-new range of Lotus cars and expansion of its third party design work. Coco will lead all Lotus Design activities for Lotus Cars and Lotus Engineering.
Coco had also worked for Citroen, where he eventually became its chief designer. Among the cars he was responsible for are the Xsara, Picasso, and C3. Meanwhile, Russell Carr remains head of Lotus design and will continue to work on Lotus cars and on its third-party projects, an area that is growing rapidly for Lotus in emerging Asian markets.
