Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co. sold over 373,400 vehicles in 2010, a 38% increase from 2009. Of this figure, 149,400 are Peugeot vehicles and 224,000 are Citroens. Its sales revenue hit 37 billion yuan ($5.6 billion) in 2010, higher by 55% from the prior year.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, which was established in 1992, is a 50:50 joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corp. and PSA/Peugeot-Citroen. It has two plants in the central China cities of Wuhan and Xiangfan where it produces the Peugeot-badged 307, 207 and 408 cars as well as Citroen-branded C4 Quatre, Elysee, C5, C2 and C-Triomphe cars.

In September 2010, the company disclosed that it will open a new assembly plant in Wuhan in 2013 to raise its annual production capacity from 450,000 units to 600,000 units. In the next five years, it expects to launch 12 new models in China.

To reinforce its presence in China, PSA incorporated its second Chinese joint venture in the south China city of Shenzhen last July. The venture, which is equally owned by PSA and China Changan Automobile Group Co., will build upscale passenger cars and light commercial vehicles for the Peugeot and Citroen brands. Its first vehicle will be launched in the second half of 2012.
