eBay Motors now offering free vehicle history reports

All the vehicles that are for sale on eBay will now have history reports attached to them from Experian automotive at absolutely no cost to buyers or sellers. Continued after the jump!
This information will be available beginning this week on all vehicles built since the 1981 model year that are sold in eBay auction and classified formats, as well as for vehicles sold by dealers or by private parties.
Nicolas Franchet, senior director of U.S. vehicles at eBay Motors, said that eBay is doing this in the interest of being the ‚Äúbest place to buy and sell your car online.‚Äù He claims that the report helps eBay foster a level of trust between vehicle buyers and sellers. These reports are automatically attached and there‚ no option for sellers to remove or revise these reports.
Unfortunately, vehicles built before the 1981 model year have vehicle identification numbers that are not unique and could not be included in the program. It‚ understandable that consumers would have more confidence in purchasing a used vehicle from the dealer if there‚ a history report attached to it.
Edie Hirtenstein, senior product manager at Experian's AutoCheck service, agrees. He said that it‚ important for dealers to know all vehicles they list on eBay have free AutoCheck information available to their shoppers.
