Edgar Heinrich will replace David Robb as head of BMW Motorrad Design Studio

Starting on July 1, 2012, Edgar Heinrich will take over the BMW Group's BMW Motorrad Design Studio. He is the successor of David Robb. After Heinrich got his university degree in design, he became a motorcycle designer with BMW in 1986. From 2007 to 2009, he headed Vehicle Design Motorcycles under the overall direction of David Robb. This is found within the BMW Group’s BMW Motorrad Design Studio. He moved to India in July 2009 and worked as the Vice President Product Design with Bajaj Auto LTD where he aims to head up the styling and model studio, capable of brand definition and brand strategies for two-wheel and four-wheel design.
When Heinrich was with BMW Motorrad, he took charge of the development of vehicles like the first 4-valve boxer models R 1100 RS and RT, the K 1200 S and R, the HP Megamoto and the triumphant Paris-Dakar racing machines. It was also in Heinrich’s drawing board that the successful R 1150 GS and R 1200 GS came from. He was at the forefront of the motorcycle design team that created the S 1000 RR, the F 800 / 650 series, the G 450 X and also the BMW Custom Concept study.
Heinrich was even involved at the start of the design development of the 6‑cylinder touring bikes and the new maxi-scooters. He also dabbles with the motorcycle. His other passions include revising sports bikes, restoring and gathering vintage models, and riding motorcycles both on and off the road. Edgar Heinrich himself said that he is “very pleased” to go back to BMW Motorrad and he has the “great opportunity” to participate in shaping the two-wheel future of the BMW Group with an exceptional team.
